MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 3rd century BC. (Bronze, 25 mm, 10.26 g, 12 h). Head of Kore Soteira to right, wearing a grain wreath and a sakkos, and with a pendant earring. Rev. KYZI Bull butting to left on ground line; below, in the exergue, boukranion. Cf. BMC 160 (denomination). SNG Copenhagen -. SNG Paris 436-437 var. and SNG von Aulock 1230 var. (both lacking a monogram on reverse). Von Fritze III, Group II, 10 (this coin). Rare variety with a boukranion on the reverse; attractive green patina. Some peripheral roughness, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of F.F. Sandstrom, ex Classical Numismatic Group 39, 7 September 1996, 885, and from the collection of G. Philipsen, Hirsch XXV, 29 November 1909, 1765 ("Treffliche Patina. Prachtexemplar und sehr selten." In that sale it was bought for RM 41 by Hirsch for his postal bidder 37, who was the well-known Frankfurt banker, Arthur P.F.W. Gwinner, 1856-1931 ).
