ATTICA. Athens. 135/4 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30 mm, 17.00 g, 12 h), New Style "stephanephoric" coinage, struck under the magistrates Menedemos, Epigenes and Lysandros. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing a triple-crested Attic helmet, adorned with Pegasos and a long tendril on the bowl, and four horse protomes on the visor, a pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. Α-ΘΕ /ΜΕ-ΝΕΔ / ΕΠΙ/ΓΕΝΟ / ΛΥΣΑΝ Owl standing facing on amphora; to left, Asklepios standing to left; on amphora, I (= 1oth month); below amphora, ΣΦ (= contractor's initials); all within olive wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 354 var. (this obverse die, but with the magistrates and controls of 353i.). Clear and well-centered. Minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

The obverse die of Thompson 354 was not associated, until now, with the magistrate Lysandros, and the controls I and ΣΦ, but with a quick comparison of the continuation of the issues between Thompson's 353 and 354, it is obvious that Lysandros appearance in Thompson's 354, although not recorded, was, in fact, to be expected.
